[compost_tea] Re: Compost Tea Recipe ?
Hi Toby,
You can make a simple elegant compost tea with 2.4 % compost and 0.5% black=
strap molasses (non-sulphured cane). The molasses is a dual food and will =
feed both bacteria/archaea and fungi. If you wish to kick up the fungal con=
tent add up to 0.063% fish hydrolysate. To give a bit of foodstock which wi=
ll encourage protozoa (flagellates & naked amoebae) you can add a maximum 0=
.25% alfalfa meal [the cheap stuff from the feed store works]. Tha alfalfa =
additionally encourages fungi. All the percentages are by volume of your wa=
ter.
Be cautious if using humic acid. Use only very small amounts. In tests whic=
h Tad Hussey and I ran together we could not get humic acid to feed anythin=
g in a liquid. It may be better to use humic acid directly on the soil rath=
er than in tea. Of course others may have a different experience than mine.
Salutations,
Tim
