[compost_tea] Re: Anaerobic Activity
Hi Mike;
Glad to see you agree. Bacteria ending up in water with a food source, such=
as the compost they were extracted from, will multiply, no doubt. So wheth=
er it is liquid compost extract or aerated compost tea, if you wish to err =
on the side of caution, certainly do not use either.
>From a personal stance, I'd rather use a freshly made aerated compost tea, =
especially which I can examine for protozoa levels then a liquid compost ex=
tract (LCE) which may have sat non-aerated for a number of days. I believe =
the storage concept is one of the selling points for LCE is it not?
If I were making either, myself, from good (vermi)compost, I'd confidently =
use it on my own food but you are correct, I'd be apprehensive about sellin=
g sprayed produce without testing.
In one of your posts, I believe you mentioned washing. I just want to make =
sure everyone knows that the e-coli and some other pathogens mentioned have=
been discovered through testing right in the plant tissue (what I read any=
way) and washing does not remove them.
Salutations,
Tim

In many ways, the extract(s) more reflects the compost or vermicompost th=
at it was made from. The testing I have done supports this. Thus if the ver=
micompost parent materials is pathogen negative than there is a very good p=
robability that the water extract will also be pathogen negative.
