Many thanks to everyone who followed up on the chlorine thread with great s=
uggestions, comments, thoughts, concerns, and ideas.

I am now watering half of my beans with municipal water and half with rain =
water.  I will report back on whether I can see or taste any difference.=
Same with two cherry tomato plants.  I've dug in a 12 inch bamboo bar=
rier between the beans that should be deep enough to keep them separate - d=
epending of course on how our "Summer" goes here in Western WA?

'My bad' in that I sold my microscope with my larger brewer so until I find=
a replacement I cant do any proper quantitative soil analysis. Darn, didn=
't think I would miss it as much as I do.

I have been out of town for a few weeks (experiencing outrageous thundersto=
rms and "monsoons" in Tucson) so haven't checked out using compost or molas=
ses to get rid of/lesson chlorine - but I will.

By the way, if we have any list members in Tucson or Southern Arizona, I wo=
uld sincerely appreciate the opportunity of learning more about growing nat=
ive Sonoran Desert plants. Please contact me at north32nd_at_me.com.

Thanks again,
Chuck Lund

Chuck,  Thanks for sharing the results of your  research.  Erad=
icating the chlorine for household gardeners seem to be a more challenging =
venture than I first thought.  Maybe spraying the water on the soil avoid=
ing the foliage might be an option to minimize the effects of chlorine.  =
I am in agreement with you in regards to the chlorine strips, the results a=
re not precise.  I wonder if there is any data that shows the threshold c=
hlorine level in ppm, for which micro activity would be unaffected.  In d=
iscussing this with others, it was put forward that many home gardeners hav=
e been producing wonderful produce for years with hand watering using munic=
ipal water.  Therein lies my dilemma, we know for a fact that chlorine ki=
lls the microbes, yet we see many home gardeners producing successful crops=
.  I intend to get a filter and carry out a test in which one area would =
be watered with municipal water and the other with the filtered water, and
see if there are any measurable results.    CheersDeight       =
