[compost_tea] What has changed since fine gardening?

Welcome! You ask a good question. Indirectly…..

I can't put words into Dr. Ingham's mouth, but most on this list would agree much more air is better. (Who knew back then! Take it from a old guy: none of us!). Whew, when I think of some of my early systems before guys like Bob Norsen and the KIS folks spent real money and worked with Dr.Elaine. This is one reason to buy a system that has been tested.

Anyhow, what you really want to know is what improvements have been made since the article was published.

In addition to more air, air stones are no longer recommended as they are good condominiums for anaerobic micro critters.

Many on the list no longer use any sugars. Many still do.

Many activate some of the fungi in their compost by adding baby oatmeal or other carbs and growing them a week before making tea.

More and more, a home microscope has become part of good tea making.

In the end it comes down to a good test at a lab such as SFI or learning how to use a good microscope.

Anyhow, its a good question: WHat has changes since that early article? Chime in with your observations, folks.

Teaming with microbes,

Jeff L
