It appears that Growing Solutions is not the only person to file an
application for a CT brewer. The following application was filed
12/27/01 for a "compost tea percolator", inventor Huhn, Theodore;
(Elkton, MD). GSI's application was filed 5/2/2001.
There is also a patent app for micronized compost that has been filed
with the inventors listed as Reid, Bruce; (Placitas, NM) ; Karr,
Michael; (Monte Vista, CO). Hedrikus Schraven also has a patent app
filed for a method of blowing into place topsoil/soil blend that may
have compost tea intermixed with it prior to blowing.

Kind Code A1
Huhn, Theodore August 15, 2002

Compost tea percolator
Abstract
Method of producing compost tea is disclosed the steps of: Introducing
a flow of aqueous solution over and through a basket. This flow is used
to leach and wash microorganisms and nutrients from organic compost and
other organisms and nutrient-rich materials from the basket into the
culture tank. The culture tank collects and cultures microorganisms and
nutrients, creating compost tea. Compressed air is used to power this
circulation instead of mechanical pumps which injure the organisms as
they pass through.

Claims
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is claimed is:
1. A method of producing compost tea comprising the steps of:
2. Providing an apparatus comprising:
3. A reservoir tank of aqueous solution;
4. An extraction basket suspended over this tank so flow through from
this basket is collected in the reservoir tank below
5. Air tube runs from the reservoir to the extraction basket, is
submerged at the bottom of the tank, and opens over the extraction
basket apparatus.
6. Compressed air supply feeds air into the bottom of tube to force
aqueous solution up the tube and into the top of the extraction basket.
Solution leaches through the basket and collects in the reservoir below.
These nutrients and microbes may then be cultured to increase their
concentration. This solution is compost tea.

Sorry for the cryptic post - I was working on this, got distracted, and
put
it in the "to be sent", and when I sent some other e-mails, it got
mailed as
well.
But let me ask everyone, what is this a description of?
I'll repeat the description here:
23. A method for producing compost tea, comprising the steps of: (a)
filling
a tank with a quantity of liquid; (b) providing a source of compost;
(c)
introducing said compost into a perforate container configured for
allowing
liquid to flow through said perforations but for retaining particulate
matter
in said compost within said container; (d) immersing said perforate
container
in said liquid; (e) bubbling air through said liquid by generating
bubbles in
said tank to thereby circulate said fluid in said tank and through said
perforate container to maintain a desired dissolved oxygen
concentration in
said fluid and to extract microorganisms and nutrients from said
compost into
said liquid; (f) maintaining said bubbling for a period of time
sufficient to
allow said microorganisms to reproduce.
What is being described? What is it that this person is attempting to
patent?
Give it a guess. The first person to e-mail back with the right
explanation
gets a free foodweb sample from SFI.
