Thank you for replying to my post to Carol, who was looking for research ab=
out pathogen reduction via vermicomposting. I agree that Biocycle is not a=
 peer reviewed journal article and therefore does not justify a "scientific=

The only problem is that the paper that I had referenced was published in C=
ompost Science & Utilization, which is indeed a peer reviewed journal. Per=
haps you should take another look at the message below for clarification. =
I'm not trying to be a thorn in your side, I just think that you should be =
a little bit more sure about what your talking about before you shoot somet=
hing down.

I have come across one paper that might help your defense, "The Effectivene=
ss of Vermicomposting in Human Pathogen Reduction for USEPA Biosolid Stabil=
ization" published in Compost Science and Utilization, 2001, Vol. 9, No.1, =
38-49. They tested how effective vermicomposting was at reducing Salmonella=
, fecal coliform, enteric viruses, and helminth ova in biosolids. They foun=
d very significant reductions of all four pathogens / indicators after only=
 6 days. Their conclusion was that vermicomposting could be used as an effe=
ctive alternative for Class A biosolids stabilization.

I think that if vermicomposting is effective at pathogen reduction in bioso=
lids, than it will probably work with compost also, but that's just a guess=
!! ;)
