Re: [compost_tea] Re: Spring Fair
I gave a talk about three weeks ago and have another tonight. While my talk=
does not focus exclusively on tea, it is included in my presentation on th=
e difference between just fertlizing and building a healthy soil. When the =
old farmer comes in wanting some Triple Thirteen, or the new homeowner come=
s in wanting some Weed and Feed, it takes some well thought and gently plac=
ed words of persuasion to tell them (without offending or sounding like a s=
alesman) why they don't want to do that and why they want to think about th=
e 'life in the soil'. But they get it (both the message and the product), a=
nd it works, and they're happy! It's almost like a "Eureka!" to them....."S=
o that is why my lawn keeps having problems with Brown Patch......"
It has been a challenge getting people to use things like humate and seawee=
d. But once they are on that path of understanding general ideas about orga=
nic gardening and the life in the soil, then the idea of an aerobically act=
ive tea is much easier for them to grasp.
And I'm still giving it away! Just can't bring myself to sell it yet.....

Me, Elaine and members of the Tahhoma Tree Fruit club in their booth. Th=
ey invited me to show. I've given demos and talks to two of the Tree Fruit=
clubs so far and they have scheduled me for May 5th for Tahoma. I try to =
compress all you have taught me into 2 hours ( snicker) with a 6 page" tak=
e the info home" so I don't really have to say anything. Mixed emotions a=
bout letting you see what I wrote. I find the average fair going gardener =
has no clue about compost tea. They have heard of compost. After being wi=
th a group who have lived TEA for some years it is a surprise to learn that=
most people have never heard of it. Many who have no idea of the benefits,=
don't care to learn about it . This gives me a faint clue as to what your =
life is like when you are outside your admiring mob of "desiples". A big e=
ducatonal job to do before Organic will be understood and accepted by the b=
uying public. You need to be on 60 minutes, good Morning America and a few=
hundred garden talk shows
Thinking more about that, you need all of us to help by going to the gene=
ral public with your message. A few thousand garden clubs are actively loo=
king for people who will come and talk about subjects like this. Part of =
my presentation is about the brewers I make but 90% of my talk is about the=
soilfoodweb and the advantages of organic agriculture on the ecology, soil=
, land, economics and health. How the SFW works and the effects of chemica=
ls on soil and on us. Among members of these clubs I find a great interest=
and often already well informed members. Talks involve a lot of work but =
it is Fun!! I think that once someone inerested in gardening learns of T=
EA they will tune in to the subject more readily. Giving them sources of i=
nformation will help. Your info_at_soilfoodweb.com may wear out, Elaine, Bob=
