Thanks Steve -

This month's e-zine will have an update on CT, where it is clear that frou-ha-ha about molasses causing E. coli to grow in compost tea, engendered by Steve Scheuerell, V. Bess and M. Alms, was just so much smoke screen. Nothing inherently "dangerous" about molasses. No reason not to use molasses, or any other sugar.

In fact, we have data just now coming off the research line that shows you don't get certain species of highly beneficial bacteria growing without molasses in the brew.

But we are talking blackstrap, organic molasses, not dry cane products.

There is a compost tea "catalyst" on the market that uses dry cane sugar. Not appropriate for making compost tea since the number of sugars in that material is too limited to grow the diversity of beneficial bacteria desired.
