[compost_tea] Re: Re: NOSB & Compost Tea

Frank, et al -- I was overcome by my frustrations around NOP & CT yesterday
and I apologize for my sharp tongue. Thanks for the gracious response, and
all the info. I do not disagree with the need for testing, and if you read
between the lines I think you'll see that. Goodness knows I've paid out a
bunch for that myself.

As you suggest, I think the ecoli and CT thing has been overblown,
especially after reading Fast Food Nation's horrific chapter about ecoli and
other pathogens allowed under USDA big meat rules (or rather the rule of the
industries over USDA...). But I also agree we need to do everything we can
to ensure CT is safe. Luckily, I also believe we can do that.

As a somewhat humorous matter of fact, a local, longtime certified grower I
know has been hassled about and may in fact "un-certify" because he keeps a
happy flock of ducks to wander his crops and take care of slugs. It means
"raw manure" in the field inside 120 days, after all... How did this NOP
perception of manure get to be so warped?

I wish I had greater clarity about the tests NOP staff seems to have based
their CT decisions on. There have been so many different assertions and
discrepant numbers, I'm in a fog. The opening Owusu Bandele and others have
created - the new Compost Task Force - makes prior tests moot, so I very
much agree

on, and let's move this process forward. <

Where's that home test for ecoli?

I believe anyone who wants to serve on the new NOP Compost Task Force could
let Eric Sideman know, and he might actually respond! He's been the most
reponsive direct NOSB participant I've found.
