Re: RES: [compost_tea] Vegetable quality

Always delighted to support the gal that opened a window to the soil
I didn't know was there, Elaine. As to Brix what I know is what Ive
learned here on the CT list in the last many days. If I understand
it right brix will be hard to tie down. Time of day, temp, local soil
differnces, attitude of the gardener, attitude of his wife/other
gardener, will all affect BRIX readings. But so does TEA affect the
readings. Is there a useful corrolation ? ( I wish my spell check
worked on this program)

In my imagination I would expect that to evaluate TEA application
effects one would start with a happy inquisitive attitude, on a nice
day, spray individual plants of several areas, putting in a secret
numbered marker ( don't let the plants see the number) on sprayed
and unsprayed plants, come back several times to all numbered plants
in the area, record the brix readings of all plants over several
hours, starting before, after and at intervals. That plants can read
the mental attitude of people is hard to contemplate. Does my apple
tree want me to eat the apples? How about my Broccoli?

Then I would ask myself and you, Elaine, what do the readings mean?
I think in some months I would develop a method to use BRIX to tell
me something of what effects TEA had on my plants. Maybe it would
come from eating the plants if they were eatable and if I could keep
this going for one or more seasons. Or measuring the food value if I
can afford that.

Has someone already done this so I don't need to? Or is there a
better way? Lets hear more on the subject. Was it Jodi that
mentioned a BRIX 'list; on yahoo? What do we have to do to visit that
list? Is this another window, Elaine? Bob
