Liquid fish products are usually stabilized with phosphoric acid. This is to prevent microbial growth in the fish product.
If microorganisms grow in materials in a sealed container, the gases the microbes produce will cause the container to swell up, and often, will burst the container, or at least blow the seal.
If you take highly acidic materials and add them to humic acids, you will get a chemical reaction, often resulting in some gas release. Depending on what the humic aid has been stabilized with, the acid-base reactions can be alot like putting alka-seltzer in water..... FIZZ! Not biological, typically, when it is that fast a reaction. Microbial growth takes 20 minutes to get going at a minimum.
