Regardless
the theoretical discussion about how a fluid can go inside of a pipe I have changed the design of my machines after learning from 90
deg angle to a 45 angle and have noticed improvement in all aspects. I
can now use a smaller pump to do the same job I used to do before. Brewing
time have decreased and I notice less bio film formation on the pipping. I failed to respond last year when this was first posted, but I will
now. I do not see how 90 degree bends
in a fluid transfer systems would kill
life. You have to look at the velocity profile of water moving in a pipe to realize that irregardless of the direction or route, you
are going to have laminar flow. The greatest velocity would of course be in the center of the pipe, while do to the co-efficient of friction between the fluid and the pipe,
the smallest velocity would be in the "boundary layer" next to the pipe wall. This boundary
layer, to my way of thinking, would be the most
destructive to the living organisms
in the CT, due to friction.
This would hold true in a 90, 45, or even a straight
pipe. The fluid just doesn't shoot
through the pipe and go splat on
the wall of a corrosponding
elbow.
