The State government has warned us not to make
any pesticidal claims in marketing compost tea. We excerpted the "Benefits
of Compost Tea" from the Intl. CTC website. This language uses
"displace" , etc. referring to its disease prevention and suppression
qualities. The state chemist was not persuaded. In our state, as in
most states which enforce the federal FIFRA act, the term "pesticide" covers a
lot of products. The state chemist
proscribes claims that tea has pest or disease prevention or
control benefits. The state advised us that compost tea would be regulated
as a soil conditioner (as is compost itself), not a pesticide or
fertilizer. That's fine with us but the decision limits what you can say
in marketing the tea. Any other stories out there about
regulators?
