[compost_tea] NOP, Weeds,Two nukes?
This weed discussion has been wonderful. Leaping ahead in understanding
something is fun. Thank you Steve, Steven, Merla, and Elaine, and thanks
Judi for the Washington state NOP stand on compost tea. More power to
Washington
state! Other states and certifiers are still confused about that (I am
chagrined that my own state of Oregon via OTCO has not got it right yet).
CT standards are up to certifiers, folks, so work with good ones.:-)
Elaine mentions "nukes" and becoming nuke-dependent on weeds and I have to
ask if there aren't two kinds of nukes. One being a little more natural
than others? Fire and steam, maybe even vinegar seem different from the
chemical stuff. Both fire and steam would leave beneficial organic
residues, it seems. Don't know about vinegar, except it works through low
pH. Are there not several distinctions to be drawn here? 2,4-D seems like
another dimension (Is that actually legal anymore?) It doesn't seem to be
on the NOP "National List" so I guess we should be happy with some small
gains.
I made an incorrect statement recently which I would correct. Being an
American democrat, I thought the NOSB was boss of the NOP. Turns out I was
wrong. NOSB "advises" the Secretary of Agriculture+USDA/AMS/NOP
bureaucracy, but doesn't direct them. NOP decides, so we gotta get at the
government directly... Whoo boy, isn't that a fun prospect today?
