Re: [compost_tea] Re CT talks a hand-out maybe?
About my Fair experience and in answer to Laura and jeff ( below)
I think any talk needs to be from the speaker so it doesn't get out of the speakers line of thought / capability or scope of knowledge. Like I need to keep it simple to match my wits. However a boiler plate hand-out might be keep the information accurate and uniform and help the speaker . Some thing from the ICTC could help build that ( our ) group recogition too. .
My experience at the "Spring Fair" was not very exciting. A 2 to 5 minute passing glance at this new- to- most and too dam complex subject gave me a chance to hand out some information. If they read it and if they believe it and if they act on that belief and if I ever hear from them again I will be pleased. Make each of those ifs, lets say a 0.20 chance then 0.2x0.2x0.2x0.2= 16 chances in 10,000 that any one response but there were about 100 such 5 minum visits so mathematically that says 16 / 10000 x 100 probability of one response. That math is special for Tom.
Hi Tom!
I think even a much smaller sit down captive audience that came to learn about the subject is much more useful. A well planned TV show would be useful. A well planned and promoted feature show at a fair might work if well publisized and then run as a CLASS. Not a quick peek (peep) show. . A presentation at any level school science class might get parents interested if a good hand out with a response feature followed up. We need think about the objective. We are trying to change the way people understand a world of gardening, of shopping, of eating, of planting of treating everything under foot and of treating the chemical sales pitch.
There needs to be time to explain why TEA before TEA is of nterest. Why TEA took Elane, the master showperson in this field several hours to get that message clearly understood and locked in.
I didn't use this in any talk or written stuff but it feels good to me-
"When in your garden, orchard or field FEEL the presence of trillions of small friends there to helping you. They are there to doing 90% maybe 99% of the work going on in your garden. Learn how to encourage them lest you destroy them, leaving that work for YOU to do in what would become a very lonely garden."
Or like the Phrase on the wall at SFI ( approximately )
"When you destroy the friendly microbes you must take on their job"
Well them are my thoughts at the end of a tiring few days. Bob

I did one last week too :-))
maybe we can put together a talk as a group ? or perhaps ICTC could put
together a boiler plate presentation that we could modify for our audience ?
