To everyone in the Seattle area:
ProHort, a continuing education program for horticulture professionals done
by UW's Center for Urban Horticulture, has a seminar which may be of
interest. It's called "Effects of Soil Amendments and Biologicals on Plant
Pathogens" and is presented by Dr. Olaf Ribeiro. Here's the
description:
Dr. Olaf Ribiero will cover basic soil microbiology and how various
amendments affect soil microbes in the plant root zone. Research on the
effect of adding various nutrients in increasing or decreasing plant diseases
will also be discussed. This seminar will cover the effects of amendments
on pathogens on a variety of ornamental plants including mature trees.
It could be too basic to be much use but may be worthwhile. It is on
Wednesday November 19th and costs $35 (pre-registration required). For
more info, call 206-685-8033 or go to www.urbanhort.org.
