We have recently had soil tested from a farmer near us who grows
potatoes. He currently rotates potatoes with Oats/rye grass on a
two year rotation. We are just waiting for the snow to stop and melt
(everything is white and it is now snowing heavily) in order to be able
to apply our first fall application of tea & humates to a couple of his
fields as a trial.
Two SFW tests before any tea has been applied show TF is 57 and
64 with AF 14.5 and 14.1. SFW says that there is not enough total
fungal biomass for either of these crops he is growing. The farmer
is wondering if there is a better crop to rotate with potatoes to
increase fungal numbers or if compost tea with humates alone will
do the job. We are around zone 4.
If anyone has any input, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Tim Livingstone
