[compost_tea] Fungi growth in tea
It is important to consider that in a teaspoon of good garden soil there ar=
e at least a couple of YARDS of fungal hyphae. In compost or humus there is=
even more. Let's just suppose these doubled in size in the compost tea dur=
ing the brewing cycle. That is a pretty impressive increase in fungal bioma=
ss.
(Doc E can you tell us what the rate of growth is for fungi in a 12 and a 2=
4 hour tea which has a good substrate for the fungi to attach to and good n=
utrients to keep them growing?)
Bacteria do multiply. You start out with 600 million in that teaspoon of so=
il and feed them and whew...even greater increase in biomass. This is why =
it is hard to make a fungally dominated tea and why you have to be careful =
using molasses. If you don't use enough to start shock killing off bacteria=
l populations, you grow some tremendous amounts of bacteria.
Cheers,
Jeff
