I work in a park in a City so there a lot of adverse environmental factors
to contend with -pollution, dog urine, etc. A few years ago we started to use
compost tea in our gardens and on the street trees. We had soil tests done
to get a "base" reading and to see where we were in terms of biology. We
tested our compost to make sure it was good compost to use. We started out
with one brewer to try and now we have four. I can't say by looking at our
gardens I see a remarkable difference since we've used tea (we have
maintained the park in an organic manner since its onset) BUT when we
compare the tests results over the years we see a Big difference in the
biology. We are aiming to reduce the amounts of nitrogen we have to put down
on our lawns and gardens ( and into the watershed) My point is -one season
is not necessarily going to change the way things look. We applied tea this
season to some shrubs that always get powdery mildew - we weren't 100%
successful but I think we were close and going in the right direction -
We're definitely going to continue next year to develop a program to help
combat the mildew. Anyway - it does take commitment and results may not be
apparent overnight or in a season.
