I think the way to deal with the hot pepper and garlic question would be to repeat the experiment that Jeff described with soybean meal.
Part of the lawn, or part of the vineyard gets AACT alone, AACT with garlic, AACT with hot pepper extract, garlic alone, hot pepper alone, compared to the conventional management.
If you wanted to assess the microbial response, SFI could run the teas, although, since I have to pay the technical folks for their time, some payment plan would be needed.
