I stand corrected. Thanks for insights and great questions, too. I think
the key is which saponin? My searching suggested there were different
kinds, some of which certainly seemed like they would not be beneficial.
Schidigera (Mexican) saponin is steroidal, Quillajo (Chile) triterpenoidal.
Others were described as gensenosides and glycocides. Given the range of
plants that produce it, certainly seems like there are many chemical
variations. Has anyone done a full test (protozoa are ostensibly affected,
too) of same tea with and without saponin? And then you gotta ask which
saponin... and how much... aaagh... Apologize for "broad brush." Gotta
walk, not run sometimes. Oh, and Chris, I didn't mean to suggest it was a
bad spreader. That's a primary natural function in desert yucca - wind-born
yucca dust actually helps other desert plants take up water, too, so it's a
good spreader. My concern was what it does to living organisms in teas.
