Remeber to think in terms of how many microbes you are intending to support (the compost contains who you are starting with, what populations are reflected in its analysis?)(what will be the nutrient load, how many microbes do you expect to end up with?) with O2 while remaining above 5.5mg O2/L.
Also, depending on your strategy for circulating the volume, cfm may be a consideration; how much cfm is necessary to disturb the sediment on the bottom? Get everything that is in the tea into suspension. Some media producing fines in the tea are more easily kept in suspension than others. Getting these fines optimally ciculated to maximize microbial growth (microbes harbored upon them) as well as out upon application will make a significant increase in the results of your endeavor.
To get the tea (and field) results desired, use compost that has what you want in it, and in, for example, a 50G Volume (since this is approx what folks have been asking about lately), use 3cfm (this works extremely well to extract organisms and circulate the volume - when applied appropriately by brewer design (!?!) - check SFI test 97815, or contact info provided below), provided at low psi.
Diaphram pumps are appropriate in this application and will be an economical choice. Somebody I (we) know has done the R&D, identified and has an inventory of such pumps and provides them to folks like you and me on this listserve and other parts of the world for less $ than we can purchase them ourselves as individuals.
