Re: [compost_tea] Re: Tea and Turf - Sunday posts for marketing?
Chris:
Start:
Two areas of the park. Baseball field and surrounding areas. Baseball fie=
ld a slightly different soil type than surrounding but both basically subso=
il. Soil considered a "Los Osos" soil type in the atlas of soil types. To=
p soil had been removed. Poor root penetration (3-4 inches), lots of dieof=
f, heavy water usage, poor disease resistance and considered by the parks s=
taff to be their "worst case scenario". All turf showed low to nonexistant=
nutrient numbers via leaf assay. Soil showed adequat NPK.
To Date:
Root growth to 10-12 inches, expanded root mass, loss of thatch, less water=
usage, drought resistance. We had a communication problem with one of the=
workers and the park got no water for 6 consecutive weeks. Turf almost di=
ed. With water, it came back within a week. Gophers in park eating the w=
orms that had been nonexistant before. Turf showed adequate for nutrients.=
Soil assay showed low NPK.
Of the two areas, the baseball field was treated with tea and vams. The va=
ms were added during reseeding. The surrounding areas with tea only. No r=
eseeding. Tea only area brought online somewhat after the ball field. Roo=
t mass and depth showed the same with absence of micorrisa. Worms and goph=
ers in both areas. Water savings in both areas.
Both areas showed some broadleaf intrusion due to consistent mowing to 1" d=
espite our recommendations of 2 1/2 to 3" leaf length. When leaves grow lo=
nger, almost complete suppression of broadleafs.
That should roughly answer your question. It is easier than posting a 30 p=
age document into the files section of the group.
I would appreciate a less confrontational approach from you. I get the feel=
ing that you have become some kind of arbiter on this list and I don't thin=
k that serves anyone to benefit. I am sure the work you do is quite good. =
I have only been doing this for two years. I have had to learn and learn w=
hat not to do as much as what to do for given situations. If my answers ar=
e not rigorous enough for you or offend you, please just delete my posts wi=
thout reading.
My intent is to run a business. I give away much more than I sell. If you=
like what I say and my approach and want to buy into the program my associ=
ate and I have made, that would be great. You would get some benefit from =
what we have learned and it could help you make money. If you want me to g=
ive you information that will allow you to compete with me, I would probabl=
y be disinclined to do so. I am sure you approach your business the same w=
ay.
I like the free exchange of ideas here. I even like hi_yields questions. =
It forces one to constantly rethink positions that may be in conflict with =
what is really happing out there in the fields. I don't like confrontation=
and hubris. Both are non productive and this will be my last comment on t=
he subject.

Double root zone in turf (It actually got the roots much further.
Four inches when we started to over four feet later. We were
claiming eight to ten inches but a construction crew dug down to fix
something and found turf roots at the four foot level. I would
never state to any customer that I could get his turf roots to
extend four feet. I would say we can double or tripple the root
growth. This, of course, assumes they have a traditional park root
depth of 3 - 4 inches with occasional fibers reaching down to seven -
eight inches.)
More than double the root mass
Allow the conversion of thatch into food
Broke up soil by expanding root mass
Correctly balance the soil so the plants can more successfully fight
off disease
Allow us to cut back water usage by _at_ 20%

I REPLY:
You posted information about your results. If you just forgot to
answer my question, then could you please provide more info about
your starting conditions and basic program to get this growth? Tea
standalone or tea integrated into other turf management?
If you posted the info with the intent that people contact you and
you then sell them consulting services, this post belongs on a
Sunday, please???
