Native versus non-native is not a way to determine mycorrhizal requirement.
Grasses and row crops, most deciduous shrubs and trees, form relationships with VAM.
Blueberry and SOME wetland plants are ericoid.
Some deciduous shrubs will form relationships with ericoid, VAM and ectomycorrhizal fungi.
Conifers tend to be ecto-mycorrhizal.
But please remember that MOST of the fungi these plants form relationships are not mycorrhizal, but saprophytic, decomposer fungi. Most of the fungi in soil are not mycorrhizal fungi, but decomposers.
Under trees, which need fungal dominated soil (which does not mean low bacteria, it just means LOTS of fungi as well as bacteria), it would be a good idea to have fungal dominated understory species. The same mycorrhizal fungi should colonize the plants under the trees as on the trees.
So under deciduous trees, you need fungal-dominated perennial herbs that form relationships with VAM.
