Hi rick -

Ah, remember I said beneficial fungi? The fungi growing out of the decaying logs? May not be good guys. Shelf fungi, which form the shelves on logs are the fruiting bodies of the fungus that likely plugged up the water-uptake mechanism of the tree.

So, the fungi we want are the thick white (yellow, pink, lemon) fungal strands that appear in teh forest floor, in the humus layer. I think we have some pictures of these on the SFI website. David Loring has pictures on his web site too. Anyone else have pictures of happy, healthy, good-guy fungi?
