Jeff - thanks - I think you are right. I will be
replying to Chris Reid's detailed email soon. On
monday I am sending samples of the vermicast I use,
the compost I make and a couple of soil samples from
the 'best' and 'worst' areas of the orchard to SFI
lab. Back to basics. The recipe I use is what the
designer and maker of the brewer suggested. He is new
to tea too but a long term dedicated organic adherent
who makes great vermicast and excellent
seaweed/vermicast extract. He is a great researcher
and fanatic but as Chris Reid says I think we've
fallen headlong into the 'more is better' trap.
Thanks so much for your 'two cents' worth - it is
invaluable to me. We have lots of organic growers
here but hardly any who go beyond the 'substitution'
mentality.
Thanks
