One of the more charming English traits, among the Brits I know, is constan=
t complaining about bowel problems. It must be those Jellied Eels.

Now in England farmers pile the raw manure in the field, leave it for abo=
ut six months, sling it around with a muck spreader, plough it in and grow =
crops on it.

Was that what you were going to say Ted? :o)

Why is it hot and what are the temps? 100+? If it is still hot, it is=
still composting. There probably isn't enough carbon to make a good balan=
ce. If it has been turned a lot, spreading it should not be a problem. Ye=
s, there are some pathogens but chances are that after three months of turn=
ing they will not be a major factor. If you spread it on the surface and w=
ater it in, the soil biology should take care of the pathogens. All you ar=
e really getting here is N in a different form.

Remember that the Romans made teas by flowing water over manure and usi=
ng that to grow everything including the plants where they nurtured snails =
for consumption. There doesn't seem to be any historical association with s=
tomach problems among Romans. Now in England. . .

      Question,

I have come across some composted cow manure - turned with a small bu=
lldozer for about 3 months, hot,and mixed only with a small amount of wood =
shavings. There is virtually no manure smell nor anaerobic odor to this mi=
x.
