--Ted , This year I plan to make compost with wheat and oat stubble
and greens available in July or august. I plan to use ACT on
alfalfa ,wheat, oats, barley, watermelons and sweet corn. I'm trying
to keep it simple. Biggest problem here is no-till with lots of
herbicides, pesticides and toxic fertilizers in use on almost all
farms and golf courses and yards. Seems like it will be real tough
getting these eliminated (toxics)in any one place so
organic/sustainable methods can be proven. Have you heard of a
transition program from toxics to organic/sustainable which will
continue cash flow and use most of same equipment and also use ACT? I
wonder what other factors there are needing consideration. Money,
time and resources, eh? Dennis

doing. However, if I had 60 acres, I would be making the stuff that
people need to grow organically. That means compost, alfalfa, some
other vetch grasses and the like. I would try to get the highest
grade product and sell it at the highest price to specialty markets.
It's just a thought and respectfully submitted. I have been to
Kansas several times as a guest of the KMEA (Kansas Music Educators
Association) so I admire you for sticking it out there. I'm sure
it's beautiful if you grew up there but I need ocean and beach to
feel comfortable. There must be some specialty restaurants and
specialty markets that would be interested in specifically grown
crops for their menus. Again, just a thought.
