Hi Reece -

You wrote that your compost was smelling sour. 

That tells you what?  You've been at an SFI talk, think back to what smell is produced when you mix acetic acid, butryic acid, valeric acid, putrescine, hydrogen sulfide, and ammonia. 

Sour smells are the result of what kind of metabolism? 

These are a mix of the organic acids produced when anaerobic metabolism occurs. 

The compost is likely too wet.  The grey fuzz says, look out. 

Mix the compost to aerate it, and let the fungi start again.  Hopefully this time you will get threads, and thick strands.
