Two bibliographic sources on compost teas, of interest:

1.

Steve Scheuerell's paper was a literature review published
in Compost Science& Utilization. It was part of his PhD
dissertation on compost teas.

Scheuerell, Steve and Walter Mahaffee.  2002. Compost tea:
Principles and prospects for plant disease control (Literature
review).  Compost Science & Utilization. Vol. 10, No. 4. (Autumn)&= nbsp;
p. 313 - 338.

You can obtain article reprints from JG Press for $3:

At one time Growing Solutions had a PDF reprint
available on its web page.  Here is the abstract:

2.

Organic Teas from Composts and Manures
Richard Merrill, OFRF Grant Report 97–40
http://www.ofrf.org/publications/Grant%20reports/97.40.10.M= errill.Fall97.IB=
9.pdf

The full OFRF report; a 51-page PDF download, with 88 literature
references in the bibliography, "Selected References for Organic
Tea Extract Studies."

This is an OFRF research report based on work at Cabrillo Community
College in Aptos, California.

An interesting explanation, is the Four Paths of Organic Decay.

Of special interest, is the prototype home-made aerobic compost
tea extractor, based on a double barrel design.

Keep in mind the report comes from the 1997-1998 era.  I'm sure
that knowledge and experience of the participants has changed
since then.

Still, with the background information on compost teas and the
composting process, it is a worthy addition to the Compost Tea
Practitioner's Library.

OFRF is Organic Farming Research Foundation.  Fyi, they
have a round of grant applications due on July 15, 2004.

Best regards,

Steve Diver
