Re: [compost_tea] L.Bacillus sp
Hi Thomas -
I think there is some very interesting and intriguing observations about the facultative aerobes/anaerobes, the lactic acid producing bacteria, the proprionic acid producing bactera, and some of the yeasts.
I want to understand the conditions that help them prevent bad-guy growth. If they grow too much, you could have too much acid production, and that could harm plants. What are the conditions where that could happen?
And I THINK I've seen that happen - too much proprionic acid and it was detrimental to plants. The smell of the tea was very indicative.
Need to work more with the Biodynamic people, because they teach people about the SMELLs that indicate when the brewed material is "not ready yet", versus, it is finished and ready to put on the plants.
But I think your observation about preventing the detrimental effects that otherwise anaerobic conditions might result in is a good one. We need more data!
Grin.... the research scientist in me.....more data.....!!!!
