Sorry Lois and others who may not recognize these acronyms.
CTTF was the Compost Tea Task Force, which was the second pass NOSB - the
National Organic Standards Board - took at making recommendations for
compost tea, under the NOP - the National Organic Program, which is a small
group inside USDA, the US Dept of Agriculture, under their Agricultural
Marketing Service. This is all US stuff, of course. CFR stands for Code of
Federal Regulations, I believe. It's where regulations implementing laws
passed by Congress are written up.
As Steve said today, NOP regards compost tea as "raw manure," which
effectively means it's not usable the way it is normally used, so some of us
have been working on getting them to be more sensible about it for a couple
years. Please join the fun...
The CTTF report, which is actually a pretty good treatise on tea, is
available at
http://www.ams.usda.gov/nosb/meetings/CompostTeaTaskForceFinalReport.pdf
Take a read, tell them what you think. At this stage comments can be sent
to NOSB.crops_at_usda.gov. NOSB seem to be generally supportive of compost
tea, btw, unlike NOP.
