Tom, this might seem like heresy, but those that demand replicated
double blind testing and scientific method are the fringe group.
The vast majority of the world puts far more faith in anecdotal
evidence from the real world, than they do in studies.
The scientific community is the fringe group. They are a fringe group
that is *sometimes* composed of people that can have an impact on the
decision making of others, including regulators.
But you show me a farmer that puts more faith in a study than the
*experience in the field* of himself or someone else he trusts and I
will show you 100 that lean the other way.
Even in science, a study will generally be rejected if it does not
sync with experience. The study might even be correct, and the
experience deceiving, but it will not be accepted (other than by an
even smaller fringe) until it can be make to jibe with experience.
It is a good thing to have the studies confirming the data, but it is
anecdotal evidence and word of mouth that convinces people.
