Re: [compost_tea] Re: MICROBIOLOGY TESTING of COMPOST TEAS
I felt sure that you had done a little to a LOT of
testing of compost facilities product, but not nearly
as much of the actual work. My point is that it is not
as difficult to turn out good compost if one uses a
reasonable effort to control the incoming flow. Small
quantities of problem organisms will be overcome if
the volume is not to great. The original post (don't
remember who) indicated that the feed stock had to be
very precise and could be easily contaminated. This
simply isn't true.
Finally the turning of windrows is not precise and
doesn't need to be. Reasonable effort will lead to
good results in your lab testing.
My facility received 600,000 lbs per day. We worked to
see that we did not receive human food waste or other
contaminated material but people would sneak things in
because they needed to get rid of them. The small
quantities that slipped through never showed up in the
final testing.
A compost facility is like the earth in that it is an
organism that will overcome small contaminations if
reasonable care in turning is adhered to.
