Hi Ted -

When you say "carbonization", do you perhaps mean production of charcoal?

Would that be a good way to say that process of burning the carbon containing materials?

Can you think of a better term, that most non-University people would still recognize?

I've struggled with a good term for years, and hope maybe someone can help come up with a good term to present this idea clearly, in one word.
