I belong to the SOD task force for San Luis Obispo and receive all the emai=
ls regarding SOD. While there is some testing being done, there is NO data=
supporting the premise that CT has any effect on SOD. There are other roo=
t rots that also strike native oaks and sage and sometimes the different fu=
ngal-based rots are confused. I am in the middle of a series of tests to s=
ee if CT can control these. I have had some success but nothing definitive=
and I've only been doing this for a little over 6 months.

As a matter of course, there isn't even consensus about how Phytophthora ra=
mosum is transmitted. Known: It can vector, it seems to be water delivered=
, it appears to be wind borne, it appears to be transmitted by borers. Iik=
e Pine Pitch Canker, it seems that vectors along roots and uses symbiots li=
ke rhodendendron and sage. Intrestingly, oaks growing along with poison oa=
k have much less incidence of SOD. When the poison oak is cleared, the pla=
nts seem to become volunerable to attack. One line of thinking has it that=
the poison oak works in symbiosis with scrub oaks allowing the scrub oak t=
o withstand SOD. This is unproven though.
