While what you write is true,  the simple fact is that the vast
majority of tests are not scientific tests with large sample sizes.,
or even controls. And in this case, it is far better to consider it a
bet rather than a test.

The reality is that over time, these unscientific, one-shot
comparisons, or even one-shot trails without a comparison, will
convince far more people than any amount of scientific testing. People
just don't like to read test results. They would rather believe their
own eyes.

Ted is taking a chance that something could happen that would
erroniously show badly for ACT, but I suspect that if you complecated
it much beyond its current level of a shootout, that there would be no
test at all.

He has a chance to show what ACT can do, and he is taking that chance.
He is showing faith in his product. It's good marketing if not
necessarily good science. And ACT could use some good marketing.

Even Monsanto, with with its huge budget, and lots of studies to back
them up, has to deal with farmers doing their own shootouts like this.
Because it is the shootouts that actually convince the end user, not
the studies.
