Ted Peterson makes a good point.

The habitat for Armillaria may have been set-up by drought conditions, but then, OVER-WATERING occurred after that, probably.

So, turn the watering off more often.  Only water as the plant NEEDS.

The trick is how to know the plant needs water.  Oaks were selected by nature to grow in ecosystems where drought is normal later in the summer.  They don't NEED water in later summer, and when we overwater, we set the habitat for the water-fungi, just as Ted said.
