Announce Health & Environment Resource Center
Hello! Many of you have seen my postings to the mcs lists and may have
surmised that I have a strong interest in education. Toward this goal, it
is with great excitement that I announce the establishment of the Health &
Environment Resource Center, mailing list and website, which will serve as
a community outreach program for public education and will work toward
finding solutions to environmentally caused health problems through
medical/scientific/legal/industrial/media participation.
By way of background, I am a degreed chemist with extensive coursework in
human physiology, having graduated in 1987 from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill; and am currently pursuing an advanced degree in
Holistic Practice, with a special emphasis on nutrition and preventative
medicine. My experience includes work with industry and government
covering
a wide range of chemical management issues, including: proper handling,
transport, storage, and disposal of industrial wastes; communicating
technical issues dealing with hazardous waste incineration; marketing air
pollution testing and abatement services; analyzing environmental samples
for
hazardous materials; and communicating the health risks and affects of
exposure to environmental factors.
>From August 1994 through December 1996 I served as a Technical Information
Specialist for The Environmental Health Clearinghouse, sponsored by the
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. This capacity has
afforded me the opportunity of meeting hundreds of environmentally
afflicted patients, their doctors, and many other interested parties, and
to confront the
surrounding controversial medical and political issues.
The Health & Environment Resource Center is intended to provide an internet
forum for discussing environmental health issues within a framework of
sound
scientific reasoning. I look forward to your participation! Subscription
instructions and further details are included below.
Peace&Light,

Health & Environment Resource Center
Staying Healthy in a Toxic World
Discussion mailing list info HealthE-request@home.ease.lsoft.com
Website: TBA
Other resources:TBA
This premiere Resource Center was established as a volunteer, non-profit
community service.
Goals:
1) Educate the general public about potential environmental threats to
physical, emotional, and psychological health and well-being. Present
information on ways to recognize environmental factors that may already be
causing health problems or that may lead to future ones. Discuss the
effects
of environmental exposures (from chemical pollutants to indoor air quality
and sick school/building syndrome), along with basic information regarding
the potential human health impact of radiation, magnetic fields, and
genetically engineered food products.
2) Develop management strategies to reduce the health risks and stay
healthy
in an increasingly toxic world. Areas of consideration will include
lifestyle and dietary changes, exercise, conventional medicine, holistic
healing, and alternative/complementary medicine. Step-wise programs of
reasonable changes, starting with the individual and proceeding to
community
and global issues.
3) Work together with medical, scientific, legal, and industrial
communities
and media towards finding solutions to prevent environmentally caused
health
problems for the individual; as well as considerations regarding the
development of worldwide safeguards to protect our air, water, and other
valuable resources.
