What's New
as of March 31, 1997

NEW FEATURE & ACTION ALERT: Push Back the Poison---Ban Methyl Bromide

The new Corporate Watch feature unmasks the Barons of Bromide, exposing the
forces behind this Class I ozone depletor and Class I acute toxin. The
feature includes nine original "Rap Sheets" on the key corporate players,
industry associations and elected officials involved in keeping this deadly
pesticide on the market, as well as an interview with United Farm Workers
leader Dolores Huerta, other information, and resources.

ACTION ALERT: Write a letter to help phase out methyl bromide.

        Send your letter to: <lwiggins@state.gov>
Assistant Secretary Eileen Claussen, Office of Global Affairs,
        US Department of State

        Key points to make:
        * Urge the Clinton Administration to take a leadership role on the
early
phaseout of methyl bromide at the 10th Anniversary of the Montreal
Protocol (September 1997). The US should secure a ban on production
and consumption by 2001 or earlier.
        * The US should also call for a freeze in 2000 on methyl bromide in
        developing nations.
        * The US should commit to providing increased funding for further
development, dissemination and adoption of alternatives.
