beef cow rations
Did anyone see the article "Pasture-poor, cow-rich" in the March 95
issue of BEEF TODAY? This article talks about a ration of chopped
straw and ground barley for a cow-calf operation. Do you have any
personal experience with feeding this type of ration or are there
published studies available? The article states that the producer
adds a mineral and vitamin A supplement to the ration but doesn't
worry about protein. I work as an extension agent and have a local
rancher interested in trying this type of feeding program, but we were
wondering if there is additional information available on do's and
don'ts before he steps into this.
Any information regarding this type of ration would be helpful.
