There should be lots of smaller(200 gal) spreaders around the countryside
from smaller farms that have gone out of business.  Depending on plot
size, they should work fine if you can redesign the spreader flood jet
type nozzle to shoot a narrower pattern.  It will take a bunch of passes
to get it calibrated with the right pressure and speed for you rate
required.  Not much need to design one yourself.  A spreader should be had
for under 1,000, but it might be rough shape.  Spreders never die a
natural death, just decay and rust.  Do not stand behind your spreader
during calibration.  Have fun.
