Carrying Capacity

A question to all you carrying-capacity experts:

Is it defined as the fixed point at t --> \infty of a given PDE serving
as a population evolution model?

Or is it defined as the maximum population level, P, at any time, t, for
which (a) there exists a fixed point at t --> \infty, and (b) P(\infty)
is not smaller than P? (I am noting here that for many nonlinear models
the accessibility to a stable fixed point will depend on the initial
state.)
