Manure and Compost
I am looking for a way that our local Organic Farming Organization can
define manure and compost so that farmers can "easily" make the distinction
so that they can comply with regulations that say ie. "do not spread raw
manure in an area that will produce leafy greens." Age does not work
because in cold temperatures without aerobic decomposition manure will
remain "raw longer than in a well maintained compost pile.
What characteristics can be used?
Are their studies that talk about the composition of generic manure
and what their affects on crops and the eaters of crops might be?
Are there standards that define manure versus Compost.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Please e-mail me at
