NGO CONSULTATION
on
UNITED NATIONS COMMISSION ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The fifth meeting of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable
Development (CSD) was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York,
April 7-25, 1997.  The UN General Assembly Special Session on Sustainable
Development, June 23-27, 1997, will discuss CSD future work plans.  USDA
is hosting an informal briefing and consultation on issues related to
sustainable agriculture, land use, and forestry to share information on
these and related topics.  Discussion items will include: 

- UN Commission on Sustainable Development and the General Assembly 
Special Session
	- Land based resources as focus for the year 2000
	- Text for Special Session: sustainable agriculture and forests
	- Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Caucus
	 - Farmers Dialogue Session
- President's Council on Sustainable Development
- USDA Council on Sustainable Development
- World Food Summit Follow-up: Development of the US Domestic Action Plan
