Organic Gardening Workshop Offered for Home Gardeners

The Michael Fields Agricultural Institute in East Troy will offer a one-day
workshop on organic and biodynamic gardening on August 2. The workshop is
intended for beginning gardeners, and will cover such topics as garden bed
preparation, the role of composting, tools, planting, weed control, and
harvesting. The workshop will include a mix of hands-on activities,
presentations and dialogue.

The trainers are Janet Gamble and Ruth Zinniker. Gamble is a greenhouse
manager and gardener for Nokomis Gardens in East Troy. She has 17 years of
experience in organic gardening, and is currently training MFAI interns in
practical organic gardening skills. Zinniker manages the garden on her
family's farm, the oldest biodynamic farm in the United States. She has
been gardening according to biodynamic principles since childhood. "It all
begins with the soil", says Zinniker. "Healthy soil gives healthy plants,
and healthy plants make healthy animals and healthy and healthy-minded
people".

The workshop runs from 9am to 4:30pm Saturday August 2, at Michael Fields
Agricultural Institute, W2493 County ES in East Troy. Registration is $55
if received by July 23, $65 if received later. The fee includes
refreshments and an organic lunch. For more information or for
registration materials, call 414/642-3303.
