QUERY- can anyone help with this?

Hi gang

I'm floating a query again I've had no answers to for some time...

My brother swears blind he saw a documentary on TV (years ago) that
demonstrated an ancient "celtic grain rake". This was in effect a
primitive combine harvester used by ancient Celts, It was like like a
wheelbarrow/cart that had a comb & sharp blade on its leading lip. The
farmers apparently grew a variety of grains in the same field, maturing
& being harvested at different times. By pushing the cart through the
field the height of the comb neatly snipping just the heads off the
ripe grains-leaving others to mature! He can't remember any more
details which grains, annual/perennial, how many species/havests etc etc

The concept IS intriguing tho' isn't it for those of us interested in
small scale/permaculture type systems....

Anyone able to shed any light on this???
