I heard from my "Cytology and Histology" prof that this desease was not a
virus or a bacteria but a mal-folded protein. The disease "spreads"
becasause when a normal folding (NF) protein comes into contact with an
abnormally folding (AF) protein it tself become AF. This can lead to
agregation . It is believed that it is this agregation that causes the
symptoms of the disease.
Some time back (i think it was 14 years ago ) some one un the UK
governemt said " Why don't we give cows some ground up sheep to increase the
protein in the cows diet." The AF proteins then moved from the sheep to the
cow. and it throught this same means that it moves to human now.
The symptom of this disease is "insanity" cause by the pressures that
are evolved in the brain where the agregates reside.
