NAFTA and Agriculture:  Is the Experiment Working?

A Tri-National Research Symposium, NAFTA and Agriculture: Is the Experiment 
Working?, will be held November 1-2, 1996 in San Antonio, Texas.  The event is 
sponsored by the Center for Study of Western Hemispheric Trade (CSWHT) of 
Texas A&M University and the Center for Economic, Social and Technology 
Research on World Agriculture and Agribusiness (CIESTAAM) at the Autonomous 
University of Chapingo.  The symposium is intended to bring together 
researchers from the three NAFTA countries to compare and discuss the results 
for North American agriculture and agribusiness.  The papers presented at the 
symposium will be published as a book.

Research papers focusing on NAFTA and agriculture or agribusiness are being 
sought, with particular interest in the areas of macroeconomics; 
socioeconomics; domestic agricultural policy; non-tariff barriers; 
production, marketing and consumption of agricultural products; Western 
Hemispheric integration; the environment; and regional implications.  Two-page 
proposals describing the planned research objectives, procedures, and likely 
contribution should be submitted by June 1, 1996.  Proposals written by 
American and Canadian researchers should be sent to:  Dr. Gary Williams, Texas
