I have a lovely little book written by a woman recalling her childhood on
a farm in the late 1800's. Her family was one of the fortunate ones with
financial resources. Each child at the age of six became responsible for
bringing water to the farmhouse. This was a walk of one mile to get to
the water source. Most families lost one or more children to disease or
accident.
But it was a good life. Our priorities were a little different.
